Jonathan Armstrong

Jonathan Armstrong qualified as a solicitor in the UK in 1991 and has specialised in technology law since 1996. He is widely recognised as one of the UK's leading experts in the field.

His practice includes counselling multinational companies on electronic corporate governance, their online reputation and on pan-European privacy policies. He recently led a project for a Fortune 250 company on data registrations throughout EMEA and is currently advising another three Fortune 250 organisations on their privacy and security policy throughout Europe.

Jonathan has been involved in the development of a number of e-commerce applications. Prior to joining Eversheds, he developed one of the first 10 law firm sites in the UK and a business information system which was twice a regional finalist in the dti/ISI Awards for Innovation in e-commerce. He speaks regularly on technology law issues and, in 2005, he was a keynote speaker at the EC funded 'Personal Data Protection: Policy and Practice in the EU Accession and New Member States' conference in Sofia. He has contributed to the European privacy section in the Law of Europe at www.lawofeurope.info

Jonathan is one of the co-authors of the LexisNexis definitive work on technology law 'Managing Risk: Technology & Communications' and has written many articles on technology related topics including: 'The Companies Act 1985 and the Internet' On Line In Print 1998; 'Internet Security' International Journal of e-Business Strategy Management 2001; 'A Year in e-commerce - Developments in the UK and the Rest of Europe' Journal of Internet Law 2003 published by Aspen Publishers, Inc.

Jonathan was recently elected a Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Marketing (FCIM) and currently serves as Vice-Chair of the International Law and Practice Section of the New York State Bar Association. He is a member of the IBA, the National Computing Centre Legal Panel, New York State Bar Association and the Advisory Board of the Georgetown University Advanced Institute on Electronic Commerce, Washington DC.
