WWW2008 Newsletter -- December 2007 (Fifth Issue)

15 TUTORIALS ACCEPTED FOR WWW2008

WWW2008 received 29 tutorial submissions. The Tutorial program committee accepted 15 tutorial proposals, including 3 full-day tutorials and 12 half-day ones. All WWW2008 tutorials will be held on Monday, April 21, 2008. The list of accepted tutorials can be found at http://wiki.cse.cuhk.edu.hk/WWW2008/tutorials.

TIM BERNERS-LEE HAS BEEN CONFIRMED AS A KEYNOTE SPEAKER

A graduate of Oxford University, England, Tim Berners-Lee holds the 3Com Founders chair and is a Senior Research Scientist at the Laboratory for Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence (CSAIL) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is co-Director of the new Web Science Research Initiative (WSRI) and is a Chair in the Computer Science Department at the University of Southampton, UK. He is the Director of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), founded in 1994.

In 1989 he invented the World Wide Web, an internet-based hypermedia initiative for global information sharing while at CERN, the European Particle Physics Laboratory. He wrote the first web client and server in 1990. His specifications of URIs, HTTP and HTML were refined as Web technology spread. For more information on Tim Berners-Lee, see keynote speakers page.

KAI-FU LEE HAS BEEN CONFIRMED AS A KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Kai-Fu Lee is a Vice President of Engineering at Google, Inc. and President of Google Greater China. He joined Google in 2005 to start Google's operations in China. He developed the world's first speaker-independent continuous speech-recognition system. This system was selected as the "Most Important Innovation of 1988" by Business Week.
