¡¤Organizers¡¯ Background

Dr. Liu Wenyin is currently an assistant professor in the computer science department at the City University of Hong Kong and an active and established researcher in the areas of Graphics Recognition and Web information analysis. He is currently Chairman of TC10 of the International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR) and has many years of experience of organizing academic conferences and workshops. Especially, he was General Chair of GREC2005, Program Co-Chair of ICWL2006, GREC2007, and QA2007. He has also served as executive members or PC members of over 20 international conferences and workshops. Since 2003, he has been developing BuyAns.com, which is a commercial user-interactive question answering website. In 2003, he was awarded the International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition Outstanding Young Researcher Award by the International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR). Qing Li is a Professor at the Department of Computer Science, City University of Hong Kong. Prof. Li has been actively involved in the research community by serving as an associate or guest editor for several technical journals (including ACM Transactions on Internet Technology,? IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, Information Sciences, World Wide Web, and Journal of Web Engineering), and as an organizer/co-organizer of numerous international conferences. Some recent conferences in which he is playing or has played major roles include ER¡¯08, WISE¡¯07, ICWL¡¯06, HIS¡¯05, WAIM¡¯04, IDEAS¡¯03, VLDB¡¯02, PAKDD¡¯01, IFIP 2.6 Working Conference on Database Semantics (DS-9), and WISE¡¯00. In addition, he served as a programme committee member for over thirty international conferences (including VLDB, ER, CIKM, CAiSE, DASFAA, CoopIS, and FODO). He is currently a Senior Member of IEEE, a member of ACM-SIGMOD and IEEE Technical Committee on Data Engineering. He is the chairperson of the Hong Kong Web Society, and also served/is serving as an executive committee (EXCO) member of IEEE-Hong Kong Computer Chapter and ACM Hong Kong Chapter. In addition, he serves as a councilor of the Database Society of Chinese Computer Federation, a councilor of the Computer Animation and Digital Entertainment Chapter of Chinese Computer Imaging and Graphics Society, and is a Steering Committee member of DASFAA, ICWL, and the international WISE Society.

Dr. Xuedong Huang is General Manager of Incubation at Microsoft Research. He joined Microsoft Research as a Senior Researcher to lead the formation of Microsoft's Speech Technology Group in 1993. From 2000 to 2004, he served as General Manager of Microsoft's Speech Platforms Group responsible for research, development, marketing, and business development of Microsoft speech technologies and products. He led Microsoft developing and marketing Microsoft's speech technologies and products across multiple product teams. Prior to joining Microsoft, he was on the faculty of Carnegie Mellon's School of Computer Sciences and directed the effort in developing CMU's Sphinx-II speech recognition system. He is an affiliate Professor at University of Washington. He has published more than 100 journal and conference papers and is a frequent keynote speaker in numerous industry conventions. Huang's professional awards include: National Education Commission of China's 1987 Science and Technology Progress Award, IEEE Signal Processing Society's 1992 Paper Award, Allen Newell Research Excellence Medal, and Top Ten Leaders in the speech industry award from SpeechTek. Huang holds a doctorate in Electrical Engineering from University of Edinburgh and is a Fellow of the IEEE.
