WWW5: closing session
awards ceremony:
robert caillau from CERN and isabelle de kerviler, mairie de paris,
presented awards to various speakers. isabelle de kerviler teached robert
caillau some english and there was an interesting debate if a medal can float on
the river saine ... it was a humorous presentation that showed to very positive
effects of female charm.
keynote presentation:
james h. clark from netscape communications made some interesting
statements:
- "the industry has to pay for the Internet because the government
cannot afford to invest more money."
- "the voice network will transform into a data network, the Internet."
- "the better the Internet connectivity, the better the economy."
- "in the san francisco bay area, they will have 10 MB/sec at their
homes. this allows to provide Internet connectivity, phone and TV on the same
cable.
announcement of the next three international WWW conferences:
as already announced in boston, from now on, there will be only ONE
international WWW conference per year. the next three conferences are scheduled
as follows:
- 1997: santa clara,
USA
- 1998: brisbane, australia
- 1999: toronto, canada
